Why Give to Expand the Canon?

Because history forgot them. You won’t.

For centuries, brilliant women and gender-expansive playwrights wrote powerful, world-shifting stories — only to be erased from the canon of classics. You’d be hard pressed to find them in classroom curricula, in libraries, or on stages, even though they belong there. Expand the Canon is changing that.

When you donate, you help us:

  • Research and rediscover extraordinary historic plays lost to time.

  • Curate works worthy of the stage and the classroom.

  • Advocate for ETC Plays to be added to curricula and onto student stages

  • Create Educational workshops and materials for students and educators

  • Publish a trilogy of monologue books with pieces from the ETC project for female, male, and gender-expansive actors

  • Commission a play to be written in conversation with one of the ETC plays/writers

  • Shift culture by redefining what — and who — we celebrate as foundational texts in theater.

Your gift isn’t just funding a project.

It’s fueling a movement — one that ensures these artists are remembered, celebrated, read, and produced for generations to come.

Every donation — big or small — moves us closer to a future where the full story of theater is finally told.

Give today and help us Read, Produce, and Expand the canon.
